The starting point of this thesis project is the observation that as a result of the explosion of the World Wide Web in the 90s, the Internet has become the most profitable and used source of information. It may seem that the drastic reduction of the search and information costs for buyers has pushed the market toward a greater degree of price competition. In fact, lower search costs making easier for buyers to find low-cost sellers, promote price competition, wiping out any extraordinary seller profit. This will results in the increase of market efficiency and total welfare. On the other hand, the reduction of seller search costs allows on-line retailers to use the web layout to provide differentiated and customized products, avoiding competing purely in price. For instance, since products are not constrained in the physical shelf, online retailers can increase the number of offering and information. In addition, since in many cases consumers can customize the products characteristics, sellers have the possibility to manufacture the product after the consumers have placed the order, thus avoiding overproduction costs.

This book gathers the papers presented at the 18th Online World Conference on Soft Computing in Industrial Applications (WSC18), which was held on 1-12 December 2014 on the World Wide Web. The conference is open to all academics, students and industrial/commercial parties, and is hosted online between authors and participants over the Internet. The 2014 installment of the Online World Conference on Soft Computing in Industrial Application consisted of a selected keynote speech, invited talks, tutorials, special sessions, and general track papers. The program committee received a total of 51 submissions from 12 countries, reflecting the international nature of the event. Each paper was peer-reviewed (typically by 3 reviewers), culminating in the acceptance of 20 papers for publication.
This study examined student's perceptions of different forms of technology use for instruction purposes by faculty and whether these different forms of technology can predict instructional quality. The study sought to explore whether different forms of technology: Productivity Tools, Presentation Tools, Communication Tools, and World Wide Web Tools, reliably predict instructional quality. The study also aimed at examining which of the predictors is more important in predicting instructional quality. A large Midwestern University Teacher Education program was the accessible population from which a convenient sample was drawn. A total of 121 responses were used in the analysis. The response rate of the study was 56.6%. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Findings from the null hypothesis and the supplementary analysis converge to indicate combination of Productivity Tools, Presentation Tools, Communication Tools, and World Wide Web Tools can predict Instructional Quality.
